Active Listeners
Relate North Essex & East Herts has sucessfully delivered Active Listener training in schools for over ten years. The training is based on six structured modules and is designed to equip up to 20 senior students, per course, with basic communication skills and an understanding of Confidentiality and Child Protection issues.
The modules are for 60 to 90 minutes and cover:
-
Active Listening skills - Empathy
-
Reflective responding - Using Questions
-
Confidentiality - Child Protection
The sessions are a mixture of experiential exercises, role play, group work and have comprehensive hand outs which add together to build a "toolbox of skills" for the Active Listener.
Trained Active Listener's gain a certificate to say they successfully completed the course which when presented often results in a lot of interest from local press, and a badge to identify them in school.
The active involvement of the school is essential, and we can help with advice on setting up, marketing, managing and maintaining a successful Active Listening service. If you are interested in setting up an Active Listening scheme, improving an existing scheme, or would like more information on our peer support work please use the "more information please" form and we will contact you direct.
