Frequently asked questions on Sex Therapy?

Will we have to do any sexual tasks in front of the counsellor?

No, your therapist will give you specific exercises to try in the privacy of your own home. You can take them at your own pace and you will never be forced to do something that you do not feel comfortable with.


I don't want my friends or family to find out, is it confidential?

Yes, Relate counselling is completely confidential. We will not give your name or any information about you to anyone outside Relate unless someone's personal safety is at risk.


I am single at the moment but I know I have a sexual problem, can you still help me?

Yes, we work with many individuals who are experiencing sexual difficulties. We can help you work on your problem so you can enter into future relationships with confidence.


Am I too old to benefit from sex therapy?

There is no age limit to having a healthy sexual relationship and sex therapy can help older people regain and retain intimacy with their partner.


I’m in a same sex relationship.  Does sex therapy work for us?

Yes, sex therapy is beneficial to all people with sexual problems.


What training do Relate sex therapists have?

All Relate sex therapists are qualified in couple counselling having undertaken training for two to three years. They then undertake further training to specialise in sex therapy.
